Starch-based films have garnered significant attention in the realm of sustainable packaging due to their biodegradability and abundant availability. This review paper delves into the various modification techniques employed to improve the functional properties of films based on starch, including physical, chemical as well as enzymatic methods. By examining the effects of these modifications on compositional changes, mechanical strength and functional properties, the review highlights the advancements that have expanded the applicability of starch-based films in diverse industries. The paper also discusses the potential of these modified films in addressing environmental concerns associated with synthetic polymers, providing a comprehensive overview of current trends and future prospects in starch-based film technology.
